Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is an effective strategy for assisting people with substance use disorders to sustain long-term recovery. However, there is still much misinformation and bias which negatively affects expansion of care and attitudes towards individuals in recovery. This presentation will address how community engagement can enhance the overall effectiveness of MAT by reducing bias across the system. Participants will be able to define community engagement and other related concepts; identify and make the business case for community engagement in opioid use disorder treatment and determine how to address community engagement challenges and barriers experienced by opioid treatment programs.
