Mr. Johnson is the Chairperson of the South Carolina Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence (SCATOD) and is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence (AATOD).

He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from Auburn University, Auburn Alabama (1975) and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Counseling from the Citadel, Charleston South Carolina (1991). After graduating from Auburn, Ed served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy for over ten years, and has worked in the Human Services / Substance Abuse Treatment field since then. He has worked with folks who are infected with and affected by HIV Disease since 1988 serving in various positions at Lowcountry AIDS Services in Charleston and since 1992 as Infectious Disease Program Administrator at Charleston Center (Charleston County Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services). In November 1999 he assumed duties as Administrator for both the Opioid Treatment Program and Infectious Disease Service at Charleston Center.

He is also the President Elect of the South Carolina Association of Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Counselors (SCAADAC) having served on that Board in various capacities since January 2002. Ed is also a member of NAADAC, the Association Professionals and the National Association of Lesbian and Gay Addiction Professionals (NALGAP).

He is currently credentialed / licensed as a Master Addiction Counselor (MAC), a Certified Addictions Counselor (CACII), and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and has called Charleston South Carolina home for the past 25 years.
